Buying trousers with shoes in mind
The break at the hem — how the fabric meets your shoe — changes the whole look. Heavy sneakers need a wider opening, slim footwear suits a tapered hem, and boots want a longer inseam so the trouser sits over the shaft. Bringing your usual footwear into the decision is what separates trousers that look considered from trousers that look accidental.
Checking for twisted legs before shipping
Ask the warehouse for a photo with both legs laid flat and straight, viewed from directly above. If the inseam spirals around the leg instead of running straight down the inside, the fabric was cut off-grain and no amount of washing will fix it. It is the single defect most likely to make an otherwise fine pair unwearable, and it is easy to spot in a photograph.
What QC should catch on trousers
Ask for a flat lay with the legs straight so you can see whether the inseams twist, plus a close frame of the fly and the waistband closure. Twisted legs are the defect people notice last and regret most, because it only shows when you walk. Uneven pocket placement and a waistband that is visibly wider at one end are the other two worth checking.
